Paul Bürck

painter, graphic artist, craftsman
* 1878 in Straßburg
† 1947 in München

In Munich, Bürck made an apprenticeship as a decorative painter and combined this with attending the Kunstgewerbeschule (school of arts and crafts). The artist created designs for interior decoration and worked as a graphic artist for printed media. Bürck was appointed to the Artists' Colony in Darmstadt in 1899 as one of the “first seven”. The hall in the Ernst Ludwig House was decorated with his wall paintings, and he also designed various everyday objects for the 1901 exhibition. The following year, Bürck accepted a teaching position in Magdeburg. This was followed by a study tour to Rome, and finally he settled in Munich as a freelance graphic artist.
