Sutter House
Architekt: Conrad Sutter
Bauphase: 1908 - 1908
The Sutter House is one of the buildings that was not designed by an architect from the Darmstadt Artists' Colony. On the behalf of Ernst Ludwig, the Grand Duke of Hesse, other architects were supposed to present Hessian architecture as part of the “Hessian State Exhibition of Fine and Applied Arts”. The Sutter House was thus the last in a series of three individual houses built for the “Hessian State Exhibition” in 1908. Edmung Körner, who was a member of the Darmstadt Artists' Colony from 1911 to 1916, moved into Sutter House in 1914. The white plastered exterior walls with the architecturally structured red sandstone are characteristic for this building. Sutter House is well preserved in its original state.
The Sutter House is located at Olbrichweg 19 and, unlike the other artists' houses on Mathildenhöhe, has no front garden. The four steps lead directly from the sidewalk to the front door. The wooden front door is surrounded by a red sandstone frame.
